Portfolio: how IUCN NL protects forests

Forests are vitally important. Conserving and restoring tropical forests is essential in the fight against climate change. Almost 25% of the world’s population depends on forests for their livelihood; many of them are among the most vulnerable people in the world. That is why IUCN NL collaborates with organisations and communities all over the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of forests.

IUCN NL works towards sustainable and inclusive governance of tropical forests, in a way that promotes:

We focus on conserving, connecting, and restoring forests with high biodiversity and natural value, especially those under pressure. We aim to create climate-resilient forested landscapes and strengthen the position of the people and nature that depend on these forests. Additionally, we work to empower Indigenous peoples & local communities, women, youth, and environmental and human rights defenders to safeguard nature and protect civic space. We also seek new partners and innovative opportunities to make an impact and build bridges between different sectors and levels of governance.
